Restored Community Force

Alright guys, the time has come to get involved! Seriously. Yes, you. Restored has a new program in the works that we are working on getting launched right now. This new program, Restored Community Force, is going to embody Restored's vision of embracing the community in service and meaningful relationship. We are in the process of getting some volunteer teams together who are willing to give up a couple of hours or even a day to serve a local family or business in Chico. Projects will vary in time and content, but we are hoping to have two or three between now and the middle of August.
These projects will be complete with onsite filming for the website, Restored apparel, and YOU. If you, or anyone you know, has a service project (anything from backyard clean up to serving a meal at a local homeless shelter) please let me know at cassi@restoredclothing.com.

* Please don't miss this awesome opportunity to serve, guys. Become a proactive member of this community and join with Restored to create unity and give much-needed encouragement.

Peace.

I need YOU!

So, is anyone else acclimated to the triple digits yet? I'm definitely in the process of getting back in the groove of things, including getting used to the heat. I'm back in Chico,CA until August 14th and am working hard to get Restored's line out and about! One of the ways I'll be doing this will be through people like you! Restored seeks to meet people in a variety of different ways, whether that be online at www.restoredclothing.com, at Farmer's Market downtown on Thursday nights, or at various locations in the Chico area, we are seeking to promote and spread the word that we are a unique clothing company.

Another way that I will be promoting Restored's vision and mission will be through Restoration Parties. These are kind of like Mary Kay parties, in which we will ask to have a "host" who will provide a home (or any appropriate location) and seven to ten guests who may share Restored's vision. The "host" will also pick one of the four charities to support if any of their guests are interested in purchasing Restored apparel.

If any of you (yes, you!) are interested in hosting a Restoration Party, please feel free to drop me a line at cassi@restoredclothing.com! Hope to see you all out and about in this lovely town of Chico!

Hey guys!
So, the month of April was such an encouragement! Over the last couple weeks I had the chance to host two Restored parties that went SO well. It's amazing how much people care about our world when you give them the tools to help, plus an awesome piece of Restored's line! The young women that I talked with were so excited to be a part of spreading Restored in the Northwest. One of the really special things about these two parties was that both were in support of Agros, which actually started here in Seattle. It was so wonderful to see that Restored Clothing is already a part of Seattle's culture by supporting Agros.
Sorry I took so long to give an update! With my freshman year being five weeks from over, it would be an understatement to say that I have been "busy".  I have been steadily making contacts and connections with local boutique owners, and hoping for a call sometime soon!

Shalom,

Funny Story

So, my first week back in Seattle (in the dorms, hint hint) has been more than entertaining/interesting. It never ceases to amaze me how much college life is really unlike any other time in life. I mean, we're all barely "adults" (whatever that means), living together in a communal setting, and nobody is ever getting enough sleep. Ever. Thus, this sets the stage for probably one of the most terrifying and hilarious situations in my life so far.
Tuesday night, it is about 3:40 AM. My roommate and I are fast asleep. I'm dreaming about the day when I won't have 8 am classes when I hear what sounds like a fist pounding on my window. Not possible, I think to myself, half asleep. We live on second floor... Must be dreaming. SMACK! I gasp, now fully awake and terrified at what sounds like a small forest creature being thrown into my window. Squinting, I try to see what's going on, but it's nearly impossible because my blinds are down. I hear laughter, mean, college boy, dirty laughter. I don't know whether to be mad or completely freaked out. The pounding starts again and my roommate wakes up. "What is going on?", she asks. "Someone's at the window.", I reply in a terrified whisper. The pounding stops for a moment and we think it's over. SMACK! Glass shatters. S#*t! We gotta run! Not, I repeat, not a joke!!! My roommate and I run to our Peer Advisor down the hall and into her room, trying not to scream. I'm absolutely terrified that whoever just broke our window is in our room trying to find us and kill us. "KATIE! Someone just smashed our window!!! WAKE UP!". Katie immediately gets out of bed and calls Safety and Security. I'm trembling. I'm so full of fear that I can't even think straight. Luckily, I didn't wet my pants, instead I lost about 3 years off my life....
Forty- five minutes later, we find out that two of our guy friends were locked out, barefoot, in their underwear, trying to wake someone up to get back into the dorm (Why? They won't tell.. I think they were pranking someone). After throwing stuff at their roommates' windows and having no response, they tried to wake my roommate and I up and accidently broke our window.
Needless to say, our window is still broken and has been the cause of sudden popularity for my roommate and I in our dorm, which is somewhat comical. Hopefully, it will be fixed next week... But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Our two "window-breaker" friends also owe us dinner, so that will be nice too. I personally wanted to milk the situation a little more, but food's always good.
Welcome back to college, right?

Coffee shops and The Economy

So, as I was flying from Sacramento back to Seattle today, I started reading Vanity Fair. Most of the articles were, in some way or another, regarding the state our economic crisis. Back in Chico, tons of businesses are closing; some are even big corporations. Man, that sucks. Money has a crazy way of controlling the way we live and even who we are, so when people lose their jobs (I believe an estimated 7.7 million thus far) it does ruin our "American Dream" faster than we even recognize.
Another thing I've noticed is that "going to coffee" and "getting some tea" has become quite the fad. And for some reason, coffee shops and tea bars have not taken the worst hit from our economic problems. In fact, it seems like they are even more crowded and busier than ever. So, I thought, maybe people are beginning to understand that the "American Dream" is not about making enough money to get the mini van, the flat screen, send the kids to a private school, and take a nice vacation once a year. Instead, our generation is starting to see that it is all about relationships. What is the point of life if you cannot relate and understand and appreciate and love others? And more importantly, what is the point of life if you cannot get some coffee with your closest friends? I think we can all admit that we have a caffeine addiction, and we also have a need for relationship.
Maybe this "economic crisis" is reason to rediscover what the "American Dream" should have been in the first place. With more people in coffee shops and tea bars maybe we could also say that people are spending more of their money on something that will give them relational dividends instead of financial dividends. And let's face it: Financial dividends really don't mean anything these days.

Sunny Chico

Oh my goodness. It is just lovely down here in Chico. The sun has been shining and it's absolutely gorgeous! It's definitely a nice change from Seattle weather. It's so nice to be home to enjoy the spring and to keep the ball rolling with Restored! When I go back to Seattle in a week or so I'm excited to really get everything going up north. Alright, well it's time to go soak up some sunshine!

The adventure begins!

I'm on my way to making some presentations! I've spotted some awesome shops and I'm really excited about approaching them with the line. I'm still doing some research, but it looks promising! More news when I actually have some....
